There are two kinds of electric charge: positive and negative
Two important details:
- If an object contains the same amount of positive charge as it does negative charge, all the positive charge cancels out all the negative charge, leaving no charge
- Every object contains exactly the same amount of positive charge as it does negative charge.
Were it not for this, we would be subjected to enormous forces: a potato would explode violently if the cancellation were imperfect by as little as one part per 10,000,000,000.
